Since her dad’s diagnosis with leukaemia in September, Lena has spent a number of weekends at the University of Alberta hospital. She would come home from her visits with daddy and draw what she saw at the hospital that day.
One day, while her dad was receiving a transfusion, she went on an adventure with her grandma and uncle visiting the different floors of the hospital. She found a hidden piano, a “church with angels”, and “the place where all the sick children go.” Her four year old heart could not quite understand why children needed to stay in the hospital when “they could just sleep on the couch and eat oatmeal until they feel better” instead.
That day she talked a lot about the children at the hospital and how she wants to be a surgeon so people can live. She drew many pictures after that visit and wants to share them with everyone. She also thinks it would be great if her friends drew pictures to make people feel better too.
So on December 20 she is hosting an Art Show with proceeds from her art sales going to the Stollery. If you have a budding artist at home that would like to join her, please fill out our Art Submission Form so we can help spread Children’s Christmas Cheer.
